Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo expected to miss 4 weeks with pectoral injury
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Isaac Seumalo will not be on the field when the team kicks off the 2024 season next week. According to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the veteran guard is expected to miss four weeks with a pectoral injury.
Seumalo left practice on Wednesday with an apparent pectoral injury and underwent tests to determine the severity of the injury. With Seumalo out for the first part of the year, Spencer Anderson or Mason McCormick will likely take over.
The Steelers signed the Oregon State alum to a three-year, $24 million contract in March 2023. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft and helped the team win a Super Bowl during the 2017 season.
Seumalo has played in 98 games in his NFL career with 77 starts. In 2023, the Hawaii native started all 17 games for the Steelers and did not allow one sack.

Steelers name starting QB following Isaac Seumalo’s injury
Seumalo’s injury comes as the Steelers decided who will be the team’s starting quarterback. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced that Russell Wilson will be QB1 over Justin Fields when the team takes on the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 8.

“He’s got a legitimate deep ball, not only in terms of arm strength, but in terms of accuracy,” Tomlin said per Steelers.com. “We’ve got some guys that can get down the field in many ways. So, we’re excited about that.”
“I’m super excited to be here, obviously,” Wilson said. “I came here to help us win. That’s the focus. And I think the best part is how hard we’ve all worked every day from all the way from OTAs to Latrobe. And obviously, we’ve got a great season ahead of us, and we’re excited about it.”
Fields might be the Steelers’ backup QB, but it’s not far-fetched to think he could see some action on the field this season. “His athleticism is freaky,” Tomlin said of Fields. “I’ve seen the highlights and things of that nature, but being an AFC coach, you don’t always get a chance to feel it or really pay attention to it. To see some of the things he’s capable of doing on the football field is really exciting.”
