The Pittsburgh Steelers want Aaron Rodgers, and the four-time NFL MVP doesn’t have many options if he wants to continue his playing career. Pittsburgh has been chasing Rodgers for weeks, and team owner Art Rooney II believes “all signs are positive” that the 41-year-old quarterback will eventually sign.

“We keep hearing that he’s, I guess, headed in our direction, and so that seems to be all signs are positive so far,” Rooney said Tuesday at the NFL Annual Meeting, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.

The Steelers are waiting for Rodgers to make a decision. Rooney didn’t envision it would take this long. He’s willing to wait longer, but there’s an expiration date.

“Not forever, but a little while longer,” said Rooney, when asked if he’s content to wait on Rodgers.

The signs are there. Rodgers visited the Steelers’ facility on March 21 but left without a deal. Monday, photographer Alex Amen obtained footage of Rodgers throwing passes to recently acquired Steelers wideout DK Metcalf at UCLA‘s campus.

Mike Tomlin reveals details about Aaron Rodgers’ meeting with Steelers, shares update on timeline

Over the weekend, head coach Mike Tomlin talked about the Steelers’ meeting with Rodgers and if there’s a timeline to sign him. “Not to my knowledge. You know, I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a deadline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances. But, you know, deadlines don’t often bring that to a head.”

The Steelers let both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson walk in free agency. They signed Mason Rudolph, who served as the team’s backup from 2018-23. Tomlin revealed if there’s a Plan B if they don’t sign Rodgers.

“I don’t know if we are identifying anything as Plan A, Plan B or Plan C,” Tomlin said. “We’re just simply looking at the field of available people, whether it’s free agency or the draft, and making decisions & gathering information accordingly.”

Rodgers is looking for a new team after spending the last two seasons with the New York Jets. It was not a memorable run in New York as he missed nearly all of the 2023 season and led the Jets to a 5-11 record in 2024. Rodgers spent his first 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and led the team to a Super Bowl win during the 2010 season.
