Steelers promote DT Breiden Fehoko to active roster, sign RB Godwin Igwebuike

The Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1) made multiple additions to the active roster Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s Week 3 road matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders (1-1).

The Steelers promoted defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko from the practice squad and signed running back Godwin Igwebuike off the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad. Receiver Duece Watts was signed to the practice squad.

Fehoko, undrafted in 2020 out of LSU, spent the previous three seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers before signing with the Steelers this offseason. He has suited up in 23 games (12 starts), racking up 36 tackles (15 solo). Fehoko compiled three tackles in the AFC Wild Card game against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past season.

Igwebuike signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after going undrafted in 2018. A standout at safety at Northwestern, Igwebuike switched to running back during the 2021 season with the Detroit Lions. Igwebuike played in all 17 games that season (one start), rushing for 118 yards on 14 carries and a score. He added seven receptions for 60 yards.

Watts originally signed with the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted in 2023 out of Tulane. In 38 games (29 starts) with the Green Wave, Watts hauled in 85 receptions for 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Steelers looking to get mojo back on offense

The Steelers, coming off a 26-22 Week 2 victory over the Cleveland Browns (1-1) Monday, will look to get the offense going in Week 3 against Las Vegas. Though the Steelers got the W, the offense mustered up just 12 points and 255 total yards. In the fourth quarter, fans even began to chant “Fire Canada” — a direct shot at offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Through two games, Pittsburgh sits 31st in total offense in the NFL.

Speaking with the media Tuesday, Tomlin admitted the offense needs to get its “mojo” back.

“We have to get our mojo back,” Tomlin said. “We’ve got to get that mojo that we had in the preseason where we’re playing fast and fluid with confidence, individually and collectively. We’ve lost that, to be blunt, in the last several weeks. We’re not getting the type of fluidity that we want. It starts with we’re not teeing up possession down play. Not being in advantageous possession-down circumstances and really making it challenging to sustain drives and in the score points.”
