Stefon Diggs responds to reporter calling him out on hot mic
Stefon Diggs extended an unflattering story by another day, calling the comments made by a Bills reporter “hurtful” and “insulting” to his character.
The comments in question came via a hot-mic moment on Wednesday as reporters who cover the Bills gathered for a daily media availability. The Bills live streamed the presser and fans could hear the reporters talking and speculating on which players would appear at the podium. Someone suggested that Maddy Glab, who works for the Bills, go get Stefon Diggs.
The mic picked up her saying “there’s no control over Stefon Diggs. Dude’s gonna do what he wants to do. He’ll look in my face and say (expletive) you…that’s how he treats everybody.”
The comments soon went viral. And Glab issued an immediate apology. This all happened after Wednesday’s practice, two days after the Bills fell to the Jets in overtime.
Stefon Diggs’ brother, Trevon Diggs, gave the news added legs on Thursday when he tweeted: “They turn on you so quick. Gotta get bro somewhere safe.”
Then Stefon shared multiple posts Thursday night.
“The audio shared was very hurtful,” he wrote. “And was insulting to my character and to how I was raised. I’ve always treated people how I want to be treated. I greet everyone with smiles and respect. From the people in our cafe to the people that keep our building in clean & in order.”
Stefon Diggs said who he is on field isn’t how he is off of it
Diggs followed that comment with this one: “The media or fans may confuse my competitiveness that they witness on the field as who I am as a person. But off the field Id never treat anyone how she described & have never said anything remotely close to that to her.”

There were more posts from Stefon Diggs. “Idk why it was said, but this is an example of why people don’t want to deal with the media. It’s hard to fight the preconceived notions people have about you. Regardless of ever having a personal experience with them. … We get you all have a job. And I respect it, but please remember I’m a human just like you. And if I ever made you or anyone else feel like you can’t approach me. I apologize.” And he punctuated it with a red heart emoji.
These comments came about 24 hours after Glab shared her apology and immediately owned what happened. She said she “respects the hell out of Stefon Diggs, and he has been one of my favorite players to cover.”
And she added: “for context, media was waiting for players to come out for press conferences when a reporter joking told me to go get Stefon Diggs. I said I don’t have control over him — Stef marches to the beat of his own drum and I love that about him. He has a playful relationship with our video department, so that’s why I said he probably wouldn’t say yes to me grabbing him for an interview. I should not have said what I said, and I apologize for that. Stef is not in the wrong, I am.”
Maybe this story goes away if the Bills begin to win again. They’ve lost two high-profile games in a row dating back to last season’s home playoff defeat by the Bengals. Stefon Diggs was so upset by the loss tha5 cameras caught him screaming at Josh Allen. Then, he quickly vacated the lockerroom leaving other players to do press conferences. Buffalo plays host to the Raiders this Sunday.
