Steph Curry wins American Century Championship after fan yells during Mardy Fish's swing
Steph Curry has hit plenty of big shots during his NBA career. Most of those have come on the basketball court, though. On Sunday, he drained a pretty big shot on the golf course to defeat Mardy Fish.
On the final hole, Curry buried a 30-foot eagle putt to claim the top prize in the American Century Championship — a celebrity golf tournament. It was a clutch putt from one of the most clutch players in the NBA.
Not only did the sharpshooter sink the putt, he also had a pretty epic celebration after winning the event:
Curry won the event by totaling a score of 75 points through three rounds. Confused? This specific golf tournament uses a unique scoring system:
- 10 points for each albatross
- 8 points for a hole-in-one
- 6 points for each eagle
- 3 points for each birdie
- 1 point for each par
- 0 points for each bogey
- -2 points for each double bogey (or worse)
Curry defeated Fish — a professional tennis player — by two points, thanks to that eagle putt on the 18th. Did we mention he was clutch?
You know what else helped Curry? Making a hole-in-one on the Par 3 seventh hole at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. So, calling it a great tournament for the NBA superstar would be an understatement.
As well as Curry played and deserved to win the tournament, his victory didn’t come without some controversy — or at least an unruly fan who ruined the final hole of the event.

Idiot screams in Mardy Fish’s backswing on final hole
Fish had a chance to win the event on the final hole, setting up an exciting finish with Curry. But one idiot in attendance spoiled the tennis star’s chances.
On the 18th tee box, an unruly fan took it upon himself to scream in the middle of Fish’s backswing. Fish shanked his tee shot, giving Curry a much easier path to victory on the final hole.
You can hear the fan scream in the video below. Appropriately, the broadcast team covering the event on Sunday eviscerated the fan for his actions:
Whether it’s a professional golf tournament or a charity event, there’s really no place for that. These individuals are still competing at the highest level and want to leave the course with a win.
While Curry made some great shots to win the tournament this weekend, it was an unfortunate way for the American Century Championship to end.
