Stephen A. Smith calls for Dallas Cowboys to tank for Shedeur Sanders, hire Deion Sanders
The Dallas Cowboys have been struggling this season and with that, there are questions about the future of the franchise. This comes as one of the team’s all-time great players, Deion Sanders, has thrived as the head coach at Colorado.
Given that, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith boldly shared on First Take that he feels that the Cowboys should tank their season. That way, they’ll be able to land both quarterback Shedeur Sanders as well as Deion Sanders.
“I’ll take it a step further and I’m gonna make people very uncomfortable here,” Smith said. “Prime, we know the brother can recruit. We’re talking about the greatest cornerback in the history of the National Football League. This brother Prime Time Deion Sanders and the job that he’s doing…I believe that the Dallas Cowboys should tank the rest of the season, get the number one overall pick, so you can draft Shedeur Sanders and, by the way, hire Prime Time Deion Sanders as your head coach for the Dallas Cowboys. I think that should be Jerry Jones’ master plan. That’s right, I said it. Hire Prime Time Deion Sanders. You’ve gotta tank the season to make sure you can get his son as your quarterback and you move forward that way. That is what I believe the Dallas Cowboys should do.”
Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s son, has played for his father at both Jackson State and now Colorado. There is a strong relationship there and if they were to both end up with the Dallas Cowboys, it would put them on one of the biggest stages in all of football.

“As much as I appreciate the job and the University of Colorado and the citizens of Boulder, Colorado giving Prime Time Deion Sanders this opportunity, the bottom line is when you think about Prime Time, we shouldn’t be thinking about Boulder, Colorado,” Smith said. “We should be thinking about someplace else, and I think Big D, Dallas.”
This is Sanders’ second season in Colorado and he currently has the Buffaloes in a good position to potentially win the Big 12. That means they’re in a position to potentially make the College Football Playoff.
There are a few notable challenges that could prevent this vision for the Dallas Cowboys’ future from coming to fruition. That starts with current quarterback Dak Prescott. He was just given a massive extension during the offseason, so quarterback hasn’t been the issue for the Cowboys and that contract will make it difficult to get a new quarterback.
