Stephen A. Smith pleads with Jerry Jones to fix 'irrelevant' Cowboys: 'They need to get it together'

Stephen A. Smith has been a notorious Cowboys hater throughout his career. However, it’s not been as much fun over the last few months, as Dallas is simply making it too easy for the ESPN pundit.
To say the Cowboys have been making some less-than-popular decisions is an understatement. Smith believes it’s led to them becoming irrelevant, and that’s something he’s finding difficult to come to terms with, even if he doesn’t have a lot of love for Jerry Jones’ franchise.
“They’re very irrelevant, and that’s depressed me. I don’t want them to fall off of a curb, I want them to fall off a roof,” Smith said, via Get Up on Monday. “See, in order to do that, you have to be relevant, and you have to tease the people into believing you’re going to be relevant. With some of the non-moves that they’ve made — I mean, this year they’ve created about $57 million in cap space. Dak [Prescott] and CeeDee Lamb both restructured their deals. We get that. But you still see Jerry Jones cutting corners, in terms of spending and free agency. You can’t come up with $6 million for Rico Dowdle, but you could come up for $3 million for Javonte Williams from Denver. Stuff like that. It’s ridiculous.
“With the way Washington has looked, Philadelphia is obviously the reigning, defending Super Bowl champions. There’s not a lot to say about the Dallas Cowboys right now, which depresses me. I want them good enough to make noise to get to the postseason, and to tease the most disgusting, nauseating fan base in American history into believing they’ve got a chance, just so they could fall flat on their face and I could be in Dallas laughing at them. Unfortunately, it’s not a laughing matter, because they’ve given us nothing to laugh about because they’ve been that sad over the last year. So, they need to get it together.”

All told, it doesn’t seem as if Dallas has done enough to close the gap between them and the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders. They may be better than the New York Giants on paper, but even that’s debatable. They seemed destined for third-best in the NFC East, which likely would have them on the outside looking in of the playoff picture.
Perhaps they’ll punch above their weight class, but Stephen A. Smith wants more from the Dallas Cowboys, a once-proud organization. Will he get that in 2025? Stranger things have happened, but it’s not trending that way at the moment.
