Steve Sarkisian and his wife, Loreal, had some fantastic news to share on social media on Friday night. The Sarkisians announced the birth of their son through Loreal Sarkisian’s Instagram page. She made a brief post on her Instagram page about the announcement: “He’s arrived, and our hearts are so full of love and gratitude! Embracing these first days quietly resting, adjusting, and soaking in every little moment has been amazing! Thank you for your love and for respecting this sweet time of privacy.”

It’s a bit of a surprising announcement from the Sarkisians, since they publicly announced their divorce in July of 2024. The Sarkisians were married in 2020 while Steve was the offensive coordinator at Alabama. After he took the Texas head coach job, they moved to Austin, and Loreal has been one of his most vocal supporters. Her game day outfits have also been a staple for the Longhorns over the years.

In their statement, the Sarkisians said “many heartfelt conversations” factored into their decision to jointly file for divorce. They also cited their busy professional lives with their careers – Steve as a college football coach and Loreal as a wardrobe stylist – also played roles.

This past season was a special season for the Longhorns and for Sarkisian specifically, his team advanced all the way to the Cotton Bowl–the 2025 College Football Playoff Semifinals. Texas lost the game to Ohio State, 28-14, but it was still a very impressive season for the Longhorns. In the aftermath of the game, Steve Sarkisian drew heavy criticism for a critical play call in the fourth quarter.

He called a toss sweep off left tackle out of the shotgun formation. Ohio State had it perfectly defended. OSU safety Caleb Downs ran into the backfield and almost ended the play right there. Buckeyes’ safety Lathan Ransom wrapped up Quintrevion Wisner seven yards behind the line of scrimmage. The play flipped the ‘Horns down and distance from first and one to third and eight.

Two plays later, OSU linebacker Jack Sawyer got a strip sack of Quinn Ewers, and Sawyer scooped up the fumble 83 yards to the end zone. The backbreaking play won the game for Ohio State, driving the nail in the coffin for the Longhorns season.
