Steve Sarkisian makes pitch for teams scouting Quinn Ewers ahead of NFL Combine

Former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will throw at the 2025 NFL Combine on Saturday alongside some of the other QBs in this year’s NFL Draft cycle.
Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian joined ESPN on Saturday morning before the day’s drills, lending a pitch to teams for his former QB1 before taking the field in front of numerous NFL scouts, coaches and executives in Indianapolis.
“They’re going to see this guy throw tonight, and I think he’s going to throw darts,” Sarkisian said. “I think he’s going to be on point with his ability to throw the football. I think something that gets lost — this guy has had to endure a lot during his time at the University of Texas. It’s his resiliency, his ability to bounce back. He had to fight through a lot of different injuries along the way. Played in a bunch of big-time games.
“Some of those things are hard to measure at a Combine or a Pro Day, but I think the totality of his resume, of who he is as a quarterback, I think is going to be helpful for him.”
On the field, Ewers has as good a resume as any QB in the 2025 NFL Draft.
In his three years with the Longhorns, Ewers played and started in 36 games. He amassed 737 completions for 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns while throwing 28 interceptions. He recorded a 64.9% career completion percentage.

The Texas native was instrumental in head coach Sarkisian’s rebuild at Texas, joining the team in Sarkisian’s second year at the helm. He sent Texas to two consecutive College Football Playoffs before turning pro after the 2024 season.
In 2023, the Longhorns won the Big 12 Championship en route to the CFP. While Texas was unable to secure the conference crown in 2024, it reached the SEC Championship in its first year in the prestigious league. For his efforts over the years, Ewers was named to many lists. He was a 2024 semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award and was a Top 10 Finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
Still, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has Ewers listed as the No. 9 QB available in this year’s draft cycle. Ewers’ performance in Indianapolis on Saturday could go a long way in boosting his draft stock ahead of Texas’ Pro Day in Austin on March 26.
