Stewart Friesen, Greg Van Alst released from hospital after Talladega wrecks
During the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega, Stewart Friesen and Greg Van Alst were involved in incidents on track that sent them to the hospital. However, as of this morning, both have been released from the hospital and are on their way home.
Unforutnately, Greg Van Alst suffered a fractured vertebra as a result of his wreck. Stewart Friesen has no further injuries at this time. The high speeds of Talladega are always dangerous. Hopefully, both drivers are able to heal up quickly and get back to doing what they love.
This morning the family of Greg Van Alst released a statement.
“Greg was transported to UAB Hosp following the wreck at Talladega, where he was diagnosed with a fractured vertebrae. He was released early this morning. Thank you for the support and concern over the last hours and in the coming weeks as he recovers.”
As for Stewart Friesen, the Truck Series veteran was released shortly after midnight last night. A statement on his Twitter account said he had “been treated, evaluated and released from the hospital after the on-track accident at [Talladega].”

Unlike Greg Van Alst, Friesen seems to be just fine.
Of course, racing is never safe. No matter what, danger and risk are lurking around the corner. Superspeedway racing is significantly more dangerous than other kinds. However, I don’t think we are going to see either of these drivers hang it up for good after this.
Stewart Friesen is a fixture in the Truck Series. Greg Van Alst has gotten his big breakthrough to NASCAR in the Truck and Xfinity Series. Hopefully, they can recover quickly and get back on the track. A fractured vertebra for Van Alst isn’t going to be easy to overcome, but it can be done.
