Buccaneers All-Pro tackle out against Rams
Tristan Wirfs has been a revelation for the Buccaneers since being drafted 13th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. The former Iowa star has ascended to among the best of the league, being selected as a first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler in his second season.
Additionally, Wirfs was able to taste the thrill of winning a Super Bowl in his rookie season. Now in his quest to win his second ring in as many seasons, the star tackle won’t be on the field. After suffering an ankle injury last Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, Wirfs will be sidelined against the Los Angeles Rams.
“Bucs’ Pro Bowl RT Tristan Wirfs is out today vs. the Rams,” tweeted ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Early in the game against Philadelphia, Wirfs injured his ankle. After taking a trip back to the locker room, the former Hawkeyes tackle attempted to gut it out. Still, he simply wasn’t right — forced to sit out after giving it another go.
Now, Tampa Bay will be missing the reliable Wirfs against one of their biggest tests yet. To illustrate, the Rams are bringing star pass rushers Von Miller, Leonard Floyd and Aaron Donald with them. Tom Brady will have his work cut out for him on Sunday.

The news regarding Wirfs is huge, but the Buccaneers did get some good news regarding their offensive line. Last weekend, center Ryan Jensen also left with an injury. However, he’s ready to suit up for the Buccaneers against the Rams.
In Wirfs stead, veteran lineman Josh Wells figures to take his place. Wells has been with the Buccaneers since 2019, and spent 2014-2018 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, he’ll look to fill in admirably for the injured star that’s been playing over him.
More on Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
While Tristan Wirfs will miss the Buccaneers welcoming the Rams to town, he’ll also miss something that could be more memorable than anything. On Sunday, Wirfs could be sidelined for the final game in the career of Tom Brady.
Moreover, rumors have been running rampant regarding the future of the Seven-time Super Bowl champion. Multiple reports state that Brady’s future is uncertain, and Sunday’s showdown could be the final time he takes the field.
Nevertheless, Brady will go down swinging — whether Sunday is his final game or not. With Tristan Wirfs inactive, the legendary quarterback will have his work more than cut out for him when Tampa Bay takes the field.
