There’s injury news coming out of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp as they prepare for their upcoming slate of preseason action. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles provided an update on linebacker Yaya Diaby, who had to be carted off the practice field.
“Bucs coach Todd Bowles told reporters that young star defender Yaya Diaby has an ankle injury that led him to be carted off. The severity is unknown,” said Rapoport via X.
Bowles comments on Diaby’s injury
“He has an ankle [injury],” said Bowles. “That’s all we know right now. We will see what the prognosis is as we move forward and take some more tests.”
Diaby is headed into his second season and Tampa Bay after the Buccaneers selected him in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft with the No. 82 overall pick. In his rookie season, he impressed Bowles with his pass-rush ability, finishing his rookie campaign with 38 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

When asked about his young, talented defender’s injury, Bowles remained positive, highlighting that injuries like this are part of the game, and currently, all he can do is wish Diaby the best.
“It’s football. We will wait for the results to come in,” Bowles said. “Right now, we’re hopeful. So we’ll wait and see before we say all is lost right now. He was having a great camp; he’s a great player. I just wish the best for him.”
