The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected Oregon receiver Tez Johnson with the No. 235 overall pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He put together an impressive college career that began at Troy before playing the past two seasons with the Ducks, and will look to be a difference maker in the pros as well.

Johnson surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career during his first season at Oregon, finishing with 86 catches for 1,182 yards and 10 touchdowns. He followed that up this past season by leading the team in receiving with 83 catches for 898 yards and 10 touchdowns despite playing two fewer games.

Johnson was named a second team All-Big Ten selection this past season as well as the MVP of the Big Ten Championship Game. He finished that contest with 11 catches for 181 yards and a touchdown as the Ducks defeated Penn State by a score of 45-37 to earn the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff.

Johnson had his breakout year as a redshirt freshman at Troy in 2021, finishing with 67 catches for 735 yards and four touchdowns to earn third team All-Sun Belt honors. He ended his career with the Trojans tied for the ninth-most catches (141) in program history and 10th in receiving yards (1,809).

Johnson attended Pinson Valley High School (AL), where he was a three-star prospect in 2020. He ranked as the No. 1,185 overall player and No. 195 receiver in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Tez Johnson

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein provided some additional analysis on Johnson in his recent scout of the receiver’s draft profile. He compared him to Houston Texans receiver Tank Dell, who was second on the team in receiving this past season with 667 yards and three touchdowns.

“Productive, high-volume slot receiver whose evaluation will include balancing the playmaking against his lack of traits,” Zierlein wrote. “Johnson is thin-limbed with average suddenness and benefited from a scheme allowing him to run free in space. He’s clever and instinctive with his routes, finding ways to uncover over the first two levels.

“His hands are below average and he struggles when contested, but he’s tough to find and tackle quickly after the catch. Johnson’s lack of size, strength and NFL ball skills mean he’s likely to profile as a good community target rather than succeeding independent of the talent around him.”
