Buccaneers will not place star wideout Chris Godwin on PUP
In a series of events where the rich keep getting richer, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that wide receiver Chris Godwin will not be placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list start training camp. According to NFL reporter Dov Kleiman, the Buccaneers do not believe that it is necessary given Godwin’s current condition and health status.
“More good news for the Buccaneers. First Chirs Godwin doesn’t need to start Training Camp on the PUP list and is healthy for training camp and now Julio Jones joins the team on a 1-year deal, per Adam Schefter,” wrote Kleiman via Twitter.
Godwin’s season ended earlier than the Buccaneers’ second-round playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Tampa Bay’s speedy wideout underwent ACL surgery in early January after suffering the injury in a week 15 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Despite the early exit from the season, Godwin finished the year with 98 catches for 1103 yards and five touchdowns.
With the Buccaneers likely to have Godwin ready and available come week one plus the acquisition of Julio Jones, their receiver corp is looking more dangerous than it’s ever been. With those two and Mike Evans lining up on the outside, Tom Brady has more weapons than he knows what to do with.
Jones signing with the Buccaneers
Julio Jones now has a new place to call home in the NFL. After spending last season with the Tennessee Titans, the former Alabama star receiver is signing a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Jones spent the first 10 years of his career with the Atlanta Falcons after they traded up to select him No. 6 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. He rewarded the franchise by racking up 848 receptions, 12,896 yards and 60 touchdowns during his decade-long stretch.
After dealing with a rough stretch of nagging injuries and drops in production, the then 32-year-old pass-catcher was traded to the Tennessee Titans prior to the 2021 season. Unfortunately, those injuries and lack of production followed Jones to Nashville. He was limited to just 434 yards and one score in 10 games. That led to his release back in mid-March.
Now, he’ll get the opportunity to go play with six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady in Tampa Bay. Really, the Buccaneers being seen as an ideal landing spot extends beyond just Brady, too. At 33, Jones is likely past the point of being a true No. 1 receiver, but he can still be productive.
