Safety Jamal Adams will now be joining the third franchise of his NFL career, with NFL insider Turron Davenport reporting Thursday that the former All-Pro has agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans.

Adams joins Tennessee on a one-year deal after spending the first three seasons of his NFL career with the New York Jets and the past four years with the Seattle Seahawks. He’ll reunite with defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson who was a member of New York’s staff during two of Adams’ most impressive NFL seasons.

Adams’ agent Kevin Conner of Universal Sports Management confirmed the deal and also represented Titans general manager Ran Carthon during his NFL playing days. Carthon’s father Maurice and Adams’ father George also played together as teammates for the New York Giant in the 80s.

The last two years with Seattle for Adams have been highlighted by injury, playing in a combined 10 games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. But with one First-Team All-Pro selection, two Second-Team All-Pro selections, and three Pro Bowl nods under his belt, there’s no question that Adams has the potential to be a significant difference-maker for the Titans this upcoming season.

In college Adams was a standout safety at LSU, where he played for three seasons and recorded 209 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, five interceptions, two sacks, and two forced fumbles before declaring for the 2017 NFL Draft. He was selected by the Jets with the No. 6 overall pick and burst onto the NFL scene as a rookie.

Adams was named to the PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team after ending 2017 with 83 tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, and six defended passes. He built on that with a strong second season in the league where he posted a career-high 115 tackles and 12 pass breakups to earn his first Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro selection.

In his third and final season with New York, Adams was named a First-Team All-Pro before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks ahead of the 2020 season along with a fourth-round 2022 draft pick in exchange for safety Bradley McDougald, first and third-round 2021 picks, and a 2022 first-round selection that wound up being Garrett Wilson.

Adams played in 12 games apiece in his first two seasons with Seattle as he battled injuries, though he was used as a productive blitzer in Ken Norton‘s defensive scheme where he recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss in 2020. 2020 was the last season he earned Pro Bowl or All-Pro recognition.

A torn quad tendon injury in Week 1 of 2022 sidelined him for the entire season, and a concussion paired with a knee injury placed Adams on the IR for the remainder of the most recent 2023 season after appearing in nine games. Released by Seattle on March 5 as he’ll now look to put together a fully healthy season in Nashville this year in new threads.
