Tennessee Titans announce return of HC Brian Callahan after 3-14 season
One day after a handful of NFL franchises announced they’d either be moving on or sticking with their head coach, the Tennessee Titans have decided to keep Brian Callahan. The Titans also announced they are parting ways with general manager Ran Carthon after two seasons. Callahan finished his first year with the organization, coming over as head coach after a successful stint as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.
“I’ve loved the time I’ve spent with Ran. He’s a talented football mind, a great man, and friend to everyone along his path,” Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk said in the statement. “It’s impossible to ignore that our football team hasn’t improved over the past two years. I am deeply disappointed in our poor win-loss record during this period, of course, but my decision also speaks to my concern about our long-term future should we stay the course.”
But things did not go well with the Titans.
Brian Callahan finished the season with a 3-14 record, a poor enough showing that the Titans have since earned the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Tennessee lost its final six games of the regular season, with the last win on the year coming all the way back in November.

And despite Callahan’s reported offensive acumen, the Titans were among the worst teams in the league offensively.
More on Brian Callahan
Tennessee averaged 304.2 yards per game, a figure that ranked 26th in the league. Meanwhile, the Titans produced just 18.3 points per game, a number that ranked 27th in the NFL. Simply put, it wasn’t good enough.

Then there was the matter of how Brian Callahan handled some of the off-field criticisms of his team this season.
Following a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Callahan went on quite a rant after being informed people were calling his team soft both physically and mentally.
“I mean, you really want to get me going today?” Callahan said, per Awful Announcing. “Yeah, I think to be honest with you, I think that’s complete and total bullshit if you want my honest opinion. These guys are tough f**kers, man, they go after it every day. They play hard as hell, and at no point have we ever put on tape at any point this season that this is a soft football team.
“I can’t even wrap my mind around how that would even be a conversation. I mean, just because we don’t win games doesn’t mean we’re soft. These guys play their ass off. They play hard, they play physical. You can ask any team that plays against us that when they come off the field they know they played us.”
