The Tennessee Titans are making a change at general manager, firing Ran Carthon after two seasons with the franchise, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

“Ran Carthon is out as the Titans general manager, per sources,” Schefter reported. “Carthon spent two years in Tennessee with two different head coaches, and still has four years remaining on his contract. A new Titans GM will make the No. 1 overall pick.”

After playing his college football at Florida and spending some time in the NFL as a running back, Carthon began to work behind the scenes. He started as a Pro Scout with the Atlanta Falcons in 2008, before working his way up to the position of the Director of Player Personnel with the San Francisco 49ers.

After spending a myriad of seasons building a Super Bowl contender in San Francisco, Carthon was anointed as the General Manager in Tennessee. The move never quite sat right with incumbent coach Mike Vrabel, and they parted ways last offseason. However, it’s evident Carthon’s direction wasn’t the one the Titans wanted to continue on.

In the time since the announcement came to light, Tennessee Titans Controlling Owner Amy Adams Strunk has released a statement on her decision to move on from Carthon.

“I’ve loved the time l’ve spent with Ran,” the statement read. “He’s a talented football mind, a great man, and friend to everyone along his path. It’s impossible to ignore that our football team hasn’t improved over the past two years. I am deeply disappointed in our poor win-loss record during this period, of course, but my decision also speaks to my concern about our long-term future should we stay the course.

“I love this team more than you can imagine. To our fans: we know this level of performance isn’t acceptable. We’re humbled by your support as we continue to work towards building the team you expect and deserve.”

Moreover, Strunk added that President of Football Operations Chad Brinker will lead the search for a new general manager in Tennessee, while Brian Callahan will continue in his role as head coach.

The Titans have the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and better days could be on the horizon. However, it all begins with their search for a new general manager, and it’s paramount they get the decision right moving forward.
