Tennessee Titans player charged with assault after incident at Walgreens

Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Bud Dupree has been charged with misdemeanor assault after an incident with a Walgreens employee in Nashville last weekend, according to police.

The altercation occurred Sunday night, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department. Dupree allegedly grabbed a 20-year-old male employee and his phone before another altercation before he left the store.

“Due to the victim being assaulted, the defendant is being charged with assault-fear of bodily injury,” the police said in a statement, via ESPN.

The employee had a cut on his forehead and a female employee suffered a cut on her hand, according to The Tennesseean. The Titans issued a statement saying they “are aware of the situation and are gathering additional information.”

Dupree played college football at Kentucky before going No. 22 overall to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015. He played for the Steelers from 2015-20 before signing with the Titans prior to this season.

Prior to this season, Dupree inked a five-year deal worth $82.5 million. In five games this year, he has 14 tackles and a forced fumble in 10 games, including five starts.

Tennessee is 11-5 this season and clinched the AFC South title last week against the Miami Dolphins. The Titans currently hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC heading into Week 18 — the final week of the regular season. They can clinch that with a victory over the Houston Texans this week.

It marks the second time Tennessee has made the playoffs in back-to-back years in franchise history. The Titans haven’t done it since 1960-62 when they were the Houston Oilers.

Tennessee kept winning despite losing its star running back, Derrick Henry, who recently had foot surgery. He’s expected to come off the injured reserve for Week 18 and be available for the playoff run.

Tennessee is getting ready to close out the regular season this week against Houston.
