Tennessee Titans officially unveil Houston Oilers throwback uniforms
The Oilers are making a return to the NFL … at least in uniform fashion. Sunday, the Tennessee Titans revealed that they’ll be breaking out the throwback Houston Oilers uniforms for multiple games in 2023.
Tennessee dropped the “Luv Ya Blue!” uniform combination on Sunday in multiple Twitter posts. The uniform pays homage to the Oilers, which played in Houston until the franchise moved to Nashville in 1997.
Below is the video posted by the Titans’ social media team:
“It allows us to honor as many players as we can, because it covers so much time,” said Surf Melendez, vice president and executive creative director, per the team’s website. “It also represented our transition to Tennessee, because we wore these uniforms in Tennessee as well.”
Tennessee will sport these awesome uniforms for two home games during the 2023 season. The dates were not mentioned.
Tennessee tinkered with the idea of wearing the uniforms for one road game, as well. However, the team ultimately decided against that option. Per the team’s website, these powder blue uniforms will replace the Titans’ light blue jerseys as the “third option” for games.
More and more NFL teams are reaching back into their history and breaking out throwback uniforms. This latest move by the Titans will certainly be a fan favorite. We can’t wait to see this back on the field during the 2023 season.

The Minnesota Vikings also recently announced that they’ll be utilizing the “Viking Classic” look fora game during the regular season, as well. Those uniforms pay homage to the ones the team sported during the 1960s and 1970s.
