After suffering an apparent ankle injury while being tackled, Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill was carted off the field for further evaluation. Although Tannehill walked off the field and into the injury tent on the sideline under his own power, the injury cart took him off the field after his injury evaluation ended with his right cleat and sock fully removed.

Ryan Tannehill carted off with injury

The injury occurred on a third-down scramble by Tannehill where he was wrapped up and brought down — unfortunately pinning his ankle underneath the tackler. Tannehill immediately grabbed at his ankle in pain on the field, and remained on his back for some time in obvious discomfort.

As a result of the injury concern, rookie Malik Willis took over the Tennessee offense with the Titans battling for a playoff spot. Earlier on Sunday afternoon the Jaguars earned a tough overtime win over the Cowboys, pushing them to within one win of the Titans ahead of their game. A loss with Tannehill out could prove even more disastrous if the starting quarterback is out for an extended period of time.

Willis has yet to throw an NFL touchdown despite taking over 100 snaps for the offense this year in relief. Willis started two games for the Titans in Week 8 and 9 of the season, winning against the Texans and falling to the Chiefs by three points.

Despite leaving the field with his injury, Tannehill re-entered the game with his ankle fully taped up and continued to lead the Tennessee offense. Although he appeared to be battling the injury throughout the game, he finished a game-tying drive late with a gutsy quarterback run into the end zone. Unfortunately, the game still ended with a loss after the Chargers got into field goal range with time expiring.
