Tennessee Titans promote Ran Carthon to Executive Vice President/GM, finalize football structure
After parting ways with head coach Mike Vrabel and naming former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan their new headman, the Tennessee Titans have continued to make more changes within their organization.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that Titans general manager Ran Carthon has been promoted to Executive Vice President/General Manager.
Carthon was hired as Tennessee’s 14th General Manager in January of 2023, but will now have an expanded role in the franchise, overseeing all areas that impact the football team.
“Over the past year, Ran has impressed me and our staff with his innovative approach to roster building,” Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said. “Ran’s exceptional reputation around the league as a talent evaluator and culture builder was a clear competitive advantage during last year’s free agency and draft process, as well as our recent search for a head coach.”
“Simply put, Ran Carthon makes the Tennessee Titans a destination for the league’s top talent. By expanding his role to include full roster control and oversight of the coaching staff, our organization will now benefit more completely from Ran’s unique ability to build and lead a championship-caliber football team.”
Moving forward the Titans’ coaching staff will report to Carthon, with him overseeing everything from roster and personnel decisions to sports medicine and scouting.

Carthon was a former standout running back at Florida, where he led the Gators in rushing in the 2003 season before making the jump to the NFL. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts, spending three seasons in the league before returning to Florida to complete his bachelor’s degree in sociology.
His career as an executive started as a scout for the Atlanta Falcons, spending four years in that role before going down the personnel path. After five years as the Rams’ Director of player personnel and four years as the 49ers’ Director of pro personnel, he was promoted to Director of player personnel in San Francisco. Now looking to help Tennessee usher in a new era of success.
The Titans also promoted former Assistant General Manager Chad Brinker to president of football operations, fully rounding out their football structure ahead of the 2024 season.
“As our league continues to evolve in areas like analytics, sports science, and technology, football organizations have become more complex and multifaceted,” Strunk said. “I want our football operation to be at the forefront of the NFL as teams continue to find new competitive advantages. In this new role, Chad will blend his executive experience with his strengths in football and scouting to ensure our football operation continues to innovate and grow as new opportunities emerge. Chad’s oversight of these areas will allow Ran to focus his full attention and energy on building and leading a championship football team.”
