Tests on Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones' ankle come back negative

Not much went in favor of the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. A loss to the Detroit Lions featured multiple players going out with an injury. But on Monday morning, the Packers got a bit of good news when it was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter tests on running back Aaron Jones’ ankle were negative and Jones, “should be able,” to play against the Dallas Cowboys this coming Sunday.

Before suffering his injury on Sunday against the Lions, Jones had not found much success on the ground. Jones had nine carries for a mere 25 yards and no touchdowns on the day. The Packers’ running game as a whole struggled, going for just 106 yards and no scores as a team.

Jones being able to play against Dallas will be key if Green Bay wants to pull off a big upset. In nine games played this year, Jones has rushed for 600 yards and one touchdown. Three times this season, Jones has gone over 100 yards in a single game.

Green Bay fighting off multiple injuries

While the health of Jones is positive news, the Packers as a whole are still hit with the injury bug. Offensive tackle David Bakhtiari was declared questionable to return to the game during the third quarter. Bakhtiari has been battling injury in his career as of late and it has caused him to miss multiple games. It has also resulted in Yosh Nijman getting some time at left tackle this season.

Wide receiver Romeo Doubs also was carted to the locker room early in the game. Doubs was a fourth-round pick out of Nevada in the 2022 NFL Draft. Doubs entered the game as Green Bay’s second-leading receiver with 296 yards and three touchdowns through eight games played. Doubs entered this game fresh off of a 62-yard, one-touchdown outing in a loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Pulling off an upset win over the Cowboys would be huge for the Packers’ season. After starting 3-1 and looking like contenders once again, Green Bay has dropped five straight games. The Packers now sit at 3-6 overall and are tied for second in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears.
