For the first time since 2011, the Lone Star Showdown is set to take place. Texas and Texas A&M are renewing what is a bitter rivalry between the two. Both are now members of the SEC and plenty will be on the line.

Whoever winds up a winner from College Station will play in Atlanta the following week. Georgia is awaiting in the SEC Championship and Saturday’s game will determine the Bulldogs’ opponent. Plenty would be at stake if the teams were winless. Now, pressure levels have been multiplied.

But with the Longhorns and Aggies back to playing each other for the first time since 2011, the matchup was too good to pass up.

“College Station!! We’re headed to Texas A&M for the showdown between the Longhorns and the Aggies,” ESPN College GameDay said via X.

Texas will enter next Saturday’s game with a 10-1 record, taking down Kentucky in their most recent matchup. Steve Sarkisian has the Longhorns one win away from making the SEC Championship in the program’s first season in the conference.

While Texas A&M can also make the conference title game, they did not have the same luck on Saturday night. A road loss to Auburn likely ended any chance of making the College Football Playoff as an at-large. Winning from Kyle Field and against Georgia would earn the Aggies an automatic bid, though.
