Texas guard Marcus Carr has signed on to play with the Phoenix Suns during NBA Summer League next month, according to a report from NBA insider Chris Haynes.

Carr spent six years in the college basketball world, first at Pitt, then at Minnesota and finally with the Longhorns. His first seasons was with the Panthers before transferring to the Golden Gophers. The past two campaigns he played with Texas.

As a sixth-year senior, Carr averaged 15.9 points per game, 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals for the Big 12 Tournament-winning Longhorns. He earned All-Big 12 first team honors on the season. The previous year, Carr averaged 14.7 points and 4.5 assists for the Longhorns.

Across the three schools, he started 157 of 164 games and never finished with a scoring average in single digits. He is second all-time in minutes played in Division I college basketball history.

With the Golden Gophers, Carr was twice an All-Big Ten player. He earned a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2021 and a third-team pick in 2020 from the media. During that 2020-21 season, he averaged 19.4 points per game, which was third in the conference behind Luka Garza and Ayo Dosunmu.

Marcus Carr joins Phoenix Suns draft pick Toumani Camara

The Phoenix Suns had only one pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. They used it to select Dayton forward Toumani Camara with the No. 52 overall pick.

“Due to his two-way, versatile skillset as a forward, Camara shares similarities to Aaron Gordon, Paul Millsap and Lamar Odom,” Rotowire’s scouting report on Camara reads. “If his 3-pointer becomes consistent, Camara could be a plug-and-play bench player for essentially every NBA team as a rookie. With strong defense and unselfish play already givens, there’s a development track for Camara to become a starter down the road.”

Camara is from Belgium but played high school basketball at Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna. He would be the third player from Belgium to play in the NBA after two-time NBA champion D.J. Mbenga and Dallas Mavericks guard Frank Ntilikina, who was born in Ixelles, Belgium but grew up in France.

The 6-foot-8 Camara averaged 13.9 points and 8.6 rebounds per game this season for the Flyers in 30.0 minutes per game. He shot 60.6% from inside the 3-point line during the season.

Phoenix did not have a first-round pick in the draft because it had traded the selection to the Brooklyn Nets in the Kevin Durant deal.
