Texas WR Isaiah Bond pledges to break Xavier Worthy's 40-yard dash record at NFL Scouting Combine

Former Texas receiver Xavier Worthy set an NFL Scouting Combine record last year after posting a 4.21 in the 40-yard dash. Isaiah Bond, a top Longhorns prospect this year, plans to top Worthy on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure. I anticipate running 4.20 or possibly if I’m feeling great, I might run 4.1,” Bond said, via Clarence Hill Jr. of All City DLLS.
Bond added that his best time in training so far has been a 4.23.
“I’ve been running my whole life,” Bond said, per Todd Archer of ESPN. “I’ve been one of the fastest my whole life so I’m going to go out there and when practice meets preparation, greatness is achieved. So, I’m just going to trust my training and put on a show.”
Isaiah Bond wants to make history at NFL Scouting Combine
Bond has set the bar high for himself. But as we saw with Worthy, a historic 40-yard dash time can certainly improve your draft stock. The Kansas City Chiefs wanted speed in their offense and found it in Worthy, whom they selected 28th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Worthy had a solid first season in Kansas City, hauling in 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns.

Bond transferred to Texas from Alabama ahead of the 2024 season. The Crimson Tide’s second-leading receiver in 2023, Bond’s numbers dipped slightly this past season, though Texas’ receiving production was spread out among a plethora of players. In 14 games, he compiled 34 receptions for 540 yards and five scores.
Bond’s speed was easy to see, clocking in at more than 22 mph in a win against UTSA. He is currently No. 10 on Mel Kiper Jr.‘s latest receiver prospect rankings.
