Thad Moffitt pulled from No. 46 truck, replaced by Dawson Cram at Nashville
A strange and unusual move from Faction 46, Thad Moffitt has been replaced by Dawson Cram at Nashville Superspeedway. Despite appearing on the entry list, Moffitt is not racing in the NASCAR Truck Series at Nashville.
Thad Moffitt has not had a great season in the Craftsman Truck Series. In fact, he has had a downright poor season. The grandson of Richard Petty was slated to race the entire schedule this season in the 46 truck as part of the 75th anniversary of Petty racing.
Well, that plan has hit a snag. For Moffitt, he is sitting out this week for Nashville. Dawson Cram will now race the 46 truck.
“Unfortunately, due to circumstances out of my control, I will not be racing this weekend at Nashville,” Moffitt said in a statement. “It’s frustrating and disappointing for me, our sponsors, and I’m sure for all our fans who have helped support me this season.
“But, as we work towards our next steps, I’m 100% confident that I’ll be back on the track very soon. Look forward to seeing you at Pocono.
“This is just part of the journey and I know that I’ll be back even better. Thanks to all our fans and partners behind us. We’ll see everyone very soon.”
Thad Moffitt is a driver who showed some promise in the ARCA Menards Series. He raced for David Gilliland Racing in 2021 and picked up a number of top-5 and top-10 finishes. Moffitt has just never been able to clear that hurdle and get to the next step.

This season he had a team put together just to get him on the track in the Truck Series full-time. He has not done well with it. While it is fun to have a Petty family member racing in a national series, it’s fun to see Moffitt do all of the other things outside of the track, but results matter.
When it comes to the Truck Series, they matter a lot. Results help pay the bills and they help get you to the next week in this sport. Thad Moffitt didn’t say he was sick. He didn’t say there was something wrong with him physically. For reasons he can’t control, Moffitt is out of the 46 this week.
However, it is promising that he expects to race Pocono. Perhaps this is just a kick in the rear end that Moffitt needs to perform better?
While the season hasn’t gone to his liking, it isn’t like he has a ton of DNFs. So far this season, Moffitt has three, which is three more than any driver wants. A season-best finish of P18 at Darlington is the only top-20 result of Moffitt’s season and ties his career-best finish in the Truck Series.
When Thad Moffitt gets back to racing, he has to do better.
