The Masters shared an update about the first practice round of the 2025 tournament. On Sunday evening, the Masters announced that the patron gates will not open as scheduled for Monday’s practice round because of incoming weather.

“Due to expected inclement weather and safety concerns, patron gates will not open as scheduled for Monday’s practice round,” the Masters said. “All patron parking lots will remain closed until further notice. No patrons should approach Augusta National Golf Club until more details are released. The next update will be provided by 8 a.m. (local time) Monday.”

According to The Weather Channel, thunderstorms are expected in Augusta, Georgia, on Monday. The good news is it will be clear for the rest of the week, except for Friday morning, as there’s a chance of showers.

The 2025 Masters will an interesting tournament as history could be made at Augusta National. Scottie Scheffler enters the Masters as the favorite to win since he is the defending champion. He will try to join Jack Nicklaus as the only golfer to win the Masters three times in four years.

Can Scottie Scheffler win the 2025 Masters?

Mark Schlabach of ESPN wrote that Scottie Scheffler “is still looking for his first victory of the season, but it would be difficult to pick anyone other than the golfer who has won two of the past three Masters.”

Another golfer to watch is Rory McIlroy, who has yet to get a green jacket his his Hall of Fame career. McIlroy has won the three other major championships, but the closest to winning the Masters was in 2022 when he finished second behind Scheffler.

“It almost feels like now or never for McIlroy to capture an elusive green jacket and complete the career Grand Slam,” Schlabach wrote. “He had two victories before April (against loaded fields) for the first time and is playing some of the best golf of his career. With Scheffler and [Xander] Schauffele still making their way back from injuries, McIlroy might be arguably the golfer to beat at Augusta National.”

We’ll have more on this story shortly.
