Earl Woods not only pushed his son — Tiger Woods — to be arguably the greatest golfer of all time. But he also served his country as a member of the United States military.

Earl Woods was a US Army officer who served two tours of duty.

Tiger Woods took a moment during Memorial Day on Monday to pay tribute to Earl Woods.

“If it wasn’t for my father and hundreds of thousands of others, we wouldn’t have the freedoms we have stateside,” Tiger Woods posted on Twitter. “Miss and love you dad. The ultimate SF operator.”

Earl Woods coached Tiger Woods as he was growing up and supported his son as he started his record setting career.

Earl died in 2006 at the age of 74 after suffering a heart attack. He also battled prostate cancer late in his life.

Tiger, who is 47, has had an incredible career. After attending Stanford, Woods turned pro at the age of 20 in 1996. Woods won his first PGA Tour event in 1996 and captured his first major in 1997, taking home the Masters. His most recent win in a major came in 2019 when he won the Masters for the fifth time.

For his career, Woods has 82 wins on the PGA Tour, including 15 majors.

He most recently appeared in the Masters earlier this year and made the cut, before withdrawing with an injury. Woods underwent ankle surgery in April and there is no timeline for his return to golf.

Major new update emerges in Tiger Woods court dispute with ex-girlfriend

Tigers Woods won a major court battle earlier this month regarding his dispute with his ex-girlfriend and whether she can still live in his home.

A circuit court judge in Martin County, Fla., ruled that Woods and Erica Herman should settle their dispute in arbitration as called for in a nondisclosure agreement she signed. Attorneys for Tiger Woods had asked for arbitration, while Herman wanted the NDA invalidated so she could pursue the issue in open court.

The relationship between the two started in 2014 when she began working at his Florida restaurant. They became romantically involved in 2015 and she moved in with him the following year. The NDA came along in 2017.

Herman filed her latest suit against Tiger Woods in March, several months after his reps locked her out of the house under the ruse that she was going on vacation. She sought to nullify the NDA by trying to use the new Speak Out Act. That’s a clause that protects victims of sexual harassment.
