The club of Grand Slam winners in golf is an exclusive one with only five members previously. There have been no new additions since the turn of the century. Now, with Rory McIlroy becoming the sixth addition and the first in 25 years with his win at Augusta, one of his peers has welcomed him in.

Tiger Woods took to Twitter on Sunday to congratulate McIlroy on his victory at The Masters and, in doing so, achieving the Grand Slam. He applauded his determination in his career to reach this accomplishment, specifically in doing so at Augusta National.

“Welcome to the club @McIlroyRory,” Woods tweeted. “Completing the grand slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round, and this entire journey has shown through, and now you’re a part of history. Proud of you!”

McIlroy won The Masters this evening in a playoff against Justin Rose. He would have won it outright in his pairing with Bryson Dechambeau but missed a par putt on No. 18. This left him and Rose tied at -11 and headed to a playoff. However, a better of the two second shots on No. 18 again was the difference as Rose would miss his while McIlroy would sink his to win at Augusta for the first time in his career and earn himself a green jacket.

Not only that, McIlroy, in now winning The Masters as well as the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, and The Open Championship in his career, made that history by being the first new member of those who accomplished the Grand Slam since Woods in 2000. They are the only entries in 58 years with the others being Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus.

Woods and McIlroy have been linked to one another during their professional careers on the golf course. They’re now linked again in being a third of the group that makes up those having accomplished the Grand Slam.

McIlroy celebrates with patrons after emotional win: ‘Got to go get a green jacket’

Emotion overcame Rory McIlroy after sinking his birdie putt in a playoff against Justin Rose to win the 2025 Masters Tournament on Sunday. Ten years is how long it had been since he had claimed a major victory in a major as he never had before at Augusta National. That streak is now no more as McIlroy had a green jacket finally waiting for him inside Butler Cabin.
