Tiger Woods had yet another surgical procedure on his ankle performed on Wednesday morning, he revealed on his Twitter page in a brief press release. He had the operation performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley at HSS Sports Medicine Institute in New York City. The doctor determined the surgery was a success, per the release. Check out the statement below from Woods’ Twitter page.

“Earlier today, Tiger underwent a subtalar fusion procedure to address his post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture. It was performed by Dr. Martin O’Malley at HSS Sports Medicine Medicine Institute in New York City. He has determined the surgery to be successful. Tiger is recovering and looks forward to beginning his rehabilitation,” the press release said.

Tiger Woods built himself into one of the greatest athletes in sports history, but it certainly came at a costly price to his body. Although it’s important to note, his most recent ankle injuries had nothing to do with sports.

Simply put, the man is lucky to be alive. But that didn’t make it any less painful to watch him try to struggle through the brutal conditions at this year’s version of The Masters. It wasn’t surprising that he had to withdraw from the tournament, because he was understandably in a lot of pain. The hills and slopes of Augusta National, combined with the wet, windy, and cold conditions, combined to form the worst conditions possible for Woods.

CBS Sports’ Kyle Porter put it beautifully on Wednesday afternoon on Twitter, “Tiger’s desire to be a professional and to show up when he knows he doesn’t have anything in the tank is perhaps the most admirable part of his career, but it’s time to have a real conversation about him retiring from major championship golf.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, it should be 6-12 weeks until he can put any weight on his ankle. Then it’s a walking boot. Then he’ll have to rehab. So, it would be very surprising to see Woods in any of the remaining three majors in 2023.
