Golfing legend Tiger Woods posted on social media on Tuesday to cryptically tease an upcoming announcement. The 11-time PGA Player of the Year tweeted, “The vision remains the same,” along with the date of his presumed announcement, which will come on February 12, 2024. His post also had a photo, capturing an extreme closeup of his eye.

The date of his announcement is just three days before the start of the Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour signature event he hosts at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles. Woods typically speaks to reporters in the days leading up to the invitational. It’s also just a month removed from his split with Nike after a 27-year partnership.

Could Woods be announcing a partnership with a new brand, or is his big news related to his playing schedule? One can only speculate.

Woods, 48, played in just two events during the 2022-23 season. He made the cut at the 2023 Masters Tournament in April, but had to withdraw due to a foot injury. Woods also made it through all four rounds of The Genesis Invitational last February, finishing T45.

Since the Masters, Woods has undergone surgery on his right ankle and recently told reporters that he’s pain-free, at least as far as his ankle is concerned.

Woods, Nike part ways

Tiger Woods announced last month that he and Nike would be splitting up after 27 years together. If he’s joining a new brand or even creating one of his own, the timing would make sense.

“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods said in a statement. “The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever. Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along with way.

“People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter. See you in LA!”

It is just that time of year for big announcements from major sports figures. NFL legend Tom Brady recently announced that his Brady Brand was partnering with NOBULL footwear and apparel in a merger that makes the two brands one new entity.
