Tim Tebow part of ownership group with professional hockey expansion team
Tim Tebow is getting involved in a new sport. This time, the Heisman Trophy winner and former Florida standout is jumping onto the ice as part of an ownership group for an expansion hockey team.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported that Tebow is part of an ownership group of an ECHL expansion team. The team will play in Lake Tahoe, after a new event center was built. The team is expected to begin play in October 2024.
The ECHL Board of Governors approved of the new franchise and ownership group for the 2024-25 season. Tebow owns the team with David Hodges, CEO of Hodges Management Group LLC, per ESPN.
“The ECHL proudly welcomes the 29th Member Team to the League in the brand-new Tahoe Blue Event Center, expanding our geography in the western part of the continent, and creating natural rivalries for visiting fans with the Idaho Steelheads, Utah Grizzlies, and the entire Mountain Division,” ECHL commissioner Ryan Crelin said in a prepared statement on Monday.
“I love that sports can bring people together from all over to enjoy camaraderie, competition, and community impact,” Tebow said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be part of a group bringing hockey to the Tahoe area for fans and families to create memories for years to come.”

Tebow adds CFB Hall of Fame to impressive resume
Although his time in the NFL didn’t quite go as planned, Tebow is still remembered as one of the best college quarterbacks to play the game. Earlier this year, he received a prestigious honor and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.
ESPN’s Joe Tessitore revealed the special news to Tebow while on the air.
“Did you guys plan this?” Tebow joked.
“Honestly, it’s just so humbling,” Tebow said. “Thank you. So many people were a huge part of this. … This is a humbling award, but this goes to all of my teammates that I got the chance to play with.”
Tebow became the 10th player from Florida to earn induction to the College Football Hall of Fame. He’s the seventh Gator to receive the honor since 2006. Not a bad accomplishment for a two-time national champion and Heisman Trophy winner.
