Tim Tebow makes unconventional block attempt in preseason game
Tim Tebow got his first game action as a tight end on Saturday. As Tebow continues an uphill battle to make the Jacksonville Jaguars, a block attempt from Saturday has him going viral for all of the wrong reasons.
Tebow’s unconventional block attempt actually… kind of worked
Independent NFL reporter Dov Kleiman tweeted a video on Sunday morning of Tebow’s block attempt. Tebow lines up behind the left side of the line, goes right after the ball is snapped, and kind of lunges himself at the defender. While it wasn’t the best-looking block, in the end it kept the defender away from the ball. Tebow might have been the one being pushed to the ground, though.
After spending his NFL and collegiate careers at quarterback, there will undoubtedly be an adjustment as Tebow learns how to be a tight end. In Jacksonville’s preseason game on Saturday, Tebow saw 16 offensive snaps. He did not play on special teams, and he did not catch his lone target.
Tebow faces an uphill battle to make the Jaguars roster
Tebow has a lot to learn in a short time as a tight end. His knowledge on the field after previously being a quarterback is something that could prove valuable on a young offense. Jaguars passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach recently said that Tebow’s experience could help him learn the tight end position.
“You see the football mind, you see how he sees the game from the quarterback’s point of view,” Schottenheimer said. “Well, he has played the position. He has stood back there and seen, ‘Oh, well he is moving in this direction. I have to go with him.’

Tebow won the 2007 Heisman Trophy as a quarterback with the Florida Gators. He was drafted 25th overall by the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL Draft. Tebow’s biggest strength as a quarterback was his ability to run the ball. After Denver got off to a 1-3 star in 2011, it was time for Tebow. He led the Broncos to an 8-8 record to sneak into the playoffs. The Broncos then pulled off a big upset to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wildcard round.
While Tebow might not be the most talented tight end in the NFL, his game experience as a quarterback might be enough to keep him around. Jacksonville is transitioning to rookie Trevor Lawrence at quarterback. Tebow might be someone Jacksonville wants around to help ease that transition.
