The Tennessee Titans have finalized the hiring of Ran Carthon to be their next general manager, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Carthon spent the past five seasons working with the San Francisco 49ers as their director of pro personnel.

As a result of Carthon being hired away from the organization, the 49ers will receive compensatory third-round draft picks in 2023 and 2024, ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted.

Carthon is an alumnus of Florida, where he starred as a running back from 2000-03. He was a member of an SEC Championship team in 2000 and finished his college career with 1,353 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. Carthon went undrafted in the 2004 NFL Draft before signing with the Indianapolis Colts, remaining on the roster until 2006.

Shortly after his final season as a player, Carthon secured a job as a scout for the Atlanta Falcons. That was just the beginning of his climb up the ladder of NFL front offices, as he would become director of player personnel for the Rams four years later. He held that job until 2016, when he joined San Francisco.

In 2022, Carthon took part in the inaugural NFL coach and front office accelerator program, which included leadership development sessions with football operations experts and facilitators, as well as time spent networking directly with club owners.

Carthon grew up around the game his whole life, as his father Maurice was a former NFL fullback and coach. Maurice worked as an offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, Browns, Lions and Cardinals during his time in the league.

Ran Carthon is set to take over for a Titans team that finished 7-10 this past season to miss out on the playoffs for the first time in three years. Tennessee will have the 11th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft as a result.
