Titans list Will Levis as 3rd string QB on first depth chart of camp
Know that depth charts, especially in the preseason, can be fluid. But Will Levis, the former Kentucky star, seems to be in the same place with the Titans as when Tennessee drafted him.
The Titans released the “unofficial” depth chart for this week’s preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
To no surprise, Ryan Tannehill is the starter, followed by Malik Willis, then Will Levis. Since Tannehill is 35 and in his 12th season in the NFL, he’s likely not to play much, if at all, during the preseason. So it’ll probably come down to Willis and Levis splitting reps.
Coach Mike Vrabel assessed his younger quarterbacks after a recent practice. The evaluation is ongoing.
“Just giving those guys opportunities,” Vrabel told reporters. “And they’ve done that. I think that we just have to continue to get both Malik (Willis) and Will (Levis) throws behind different lines and working with different backs and receivers and all that. So, I feel like there were some good things out there and there were some things that we’ll just have to get cleaned up. But I thought it was competitive and got some things done.”
Will Levis said getting reps in Titans offense is key
Will Levis’ story was one of the most interesting to come out of April’s NFL Draft. Scouts generally listed four quarterbacks in the top tier of the draft. And there was chatter that the four all would be gone in the top 10 picks. That prediction was 75 percent accurate. Carolina selected Bryce Young at No. 1, followed by Houston taking CJ Stroud at No. 2, then the Colts choosing Anthony Richardson at No. 4.

But Will Levis stayed in the green room for the entire first round. The Levis family left Kansas City, the site of the draft, and flew home for a private draft gathering. The Titans selected Levis two picks into the second round. So maybe fans still view him as first-round quality.
Levis recently talked about learning the Titans playbook. It’s run happy, with Derrick Henry leading the way. There’s lots of play action. And Vrabel loves three tight-end sets.
“It’s really just about all the repetitions right now,” Levis told reporters. “Regardless of how many times you’ve done this before, it’s still a new language and a new offense and it’s all about improving every day,” Levis said. “We’re building chemistry, and even when it’s not there, we talk about it and communicate it. This is the time to make that happen. We’ve got to take advantage of every single rep.”
Vrabel also wants to evaluate Willis, the former Auburn player who transferred to Liberty. The Titans selected Willis in the third round of the 2022 draft.
No doubt, these exhibition games will go a long way to deciding a final depth chart.
