TJ Watt, George Pickens injury update: Adam Schefter reveals latest timelines for Steelers LB, WR
Two of the top players for the Pittsburgh Steelers are banged up heading down the stretch of the regular season. Star linebacker TJ Watt and star receiver George Pickens have both suffered injuries lately.
Watt sprained his ankle against the Eagles on Sunday, while Pickens has not played since Dec. 1 as he is dealing with a hamstring injury.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter provided injury updates on TJ Watt and George Pickens Monday on The Pat McAfee Show, starting with Watt.
Immediately after the game, Watt said he rolled his ankle and X-rays were negative. However, Schefter said it’s possible the injury could end up being worse than initially feared.
“Well, that’s what he said after the game. Now again, the danger of this is usually that’s almost always right. And then there are the cases, like David Montgomery, where all of a sudden you find out that the damage is worse than you thought, and a guy’s going to be out longer than you thought,” Schefter said.
“He went down there, he was in pain. He was obviously grabbing that left ankle. He said it was an ankle sprain, but there’s obviously going to be further testing to see how long he could be out. And hopefully it is nothing more than the ankle sprain, the low ankle sprain, that he thought it would be after the game. But let’s see what comes back today after the test.”
Schefter was alluding to the injury Lions running back David Montgomery suffered on Sunday against the Bills.

Montgomery suffered an MCL injury and is out indefinitely. In fact, he could miss the rest of the season.
As for George Pickens, Schefter revealed that the fear is that Pickens could be set to miss even more time. He has already missed two consecutive games. The Steelers are set to play the Ravens this coming Saturday, before a matchup with the Chiefs on Christmas Day.
“The way I understood, somebody texted me earlier that George Pickens could have a Grade 2 hamstring injury. And I don’t know if that’s right or not. Somebody texted that. I never confirmed that it was true,” Schefter said. “But if it is Grade 2 that’s like a month injury, usually. So with these short games and him not practicing this past week, I think it’s fair to say, at the very least, that his status is in question for these upcoming games.
“And hopefully he can recover and make it back. But at the very least there is a question about whether or not he’ll be able to go. If it’s Grade 2 that’s got to be at least a month.”
