T.J. Watt injury update: Steelers LB suffered sprained ankle in loss to Eagles
Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher TJ Watt suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the injury is not serious. After the game, Watt told reporters that he rolled his ankle and the X-rays were negative. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said the same thing, revealing that Watt suffered a “low-ankle” injury.
Watt went down with an injured ankle with five minutes remaining in the game. Despite the loss, Watt had a strong performance on Sunday, recording seven tackles, two sacks, two quarterback hits and one forced fumble. Watt now has 11.5 sacks this season, the sixth double-digit sack season of his career.
Despite all the success TJ Watt has had in his career, a Super Bowl championship is the one thing that is on his mind. With the Steelers currently 10-4, they look poised to make a deep run in the postseason.

TJ Watt talks about Mike Tomlin and Steelers defense
“Any time you have Mike Tomlin at the helm, you have a great shot to begin with,” Watt said in an interview with DJ Siddiqi of SportsCasting. “He’s a great motivator of men and not had a losing season since he’s been there. Obviously, that’s a great accomplishment. But being able to be a guy (Russell) that comes in in relief for Justin (Fields) and just have the depth that we’ve had, especially throughout the whole offseason with the acquisitions.”
Watt also talked about the success the Steelers have had on defense. “Just speaking on the defensive side of the ball, you have Donte Jackson, Patrick Queen, just to name a few guys that have had huge impacts on our defense and DeShon Elliott as well,” he explained. “We’ve just been able to create turnovers and be very optimistic as a defense. I think our offense is top five — if not No. 1 — in time of possession. Our defense has been spending a lot of time on the bench and that’s what we’ve been doing this year.”
