TJ Watt reveals story of how brother JJ Watt got stuck in snow while delivering pizzas

The Texans are inducting JJ Watt into their Ring of Honor. And the team is doing so Sunday so that JJ’s kid brother, TJ, and all the Watts can be there for the ceremony.

There will be tears and hugs, sandwiched around a ton of smiles. In other words, fans at NRG Stadium are in for a ton of emotions. But earlier this week, we got a taste of the good stuff, with TJ Watt, the Steeler star, telling stories about JJ. His favorite tale threw it back to when JJ had decided to leave Central Michigan and walk on at Wisconsin. He’d moved back home to Pewaukee, Wisconsin. And of course, he needed a job for some folding money. So like so many other high school or college kids with a license, he became a delivery driver for Pizza Hut.

There’s one story TJ can vividly recall. it involved his brother getting in trouble while delivering the pepperoni and cheese.

“The only story I remember he was delivering pizzas in the snow one time, and he got my parents’ Ford Expedition stuck,” TJ recalled. “He like drove it into a ditch or something. I don’t know if he’s told the story or not, but he drove it into a ditch and I think my mom and I had to go bail him out. He was all content because he had his pizzas to eat and he was staying warm with his jacket. That’s like the only pizza story I remember from my brother.”

Later Tuesday, JJ Watt filled in the details TJ couldn’t remember. Yes, he did eat all the food that was intended for delivery.

“This is true,” JJ shared on X (formerly Twitter). “Wiped out a mailbox. Two different tow trucks slid off the road on their way to pull me out, which kinda justified my situation. Luckily I had a pizza, wings and breadsticks to hold me over. Paying for a new mailbox and to fix my parents truck was not fun.”

The JJ Watt story took off once he got to Wisconsin, where he evolved from walk-on into an All-American. The Texans used the 11th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft to select Watt. While in the league, JJ Watt earned NFL Defensive Player of the Year three times. He also was a five-time All Pro. Watt earned the 2017 NFL Man of the Year after raising more than $37 million to help the people in Houston who lost their homes and businesses in the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

His Ring of Honor designation is well earned. And now, JJ Watt has passed along the defensive mantle to TJ, the Steelers linebacker who has won NFL defensive player of the year trophy and three All Pro designations. He’s coming into the Texans game as the league leader in sacks.
