Todd McShay reveals Titans' 'wish list' includes trading No. 1 pick in 2025 NFL Draft

With nine weeks to go until the 2025 NFL Draft, all eyes are on the No. 1 overall pick. The Tennessee Titans sit atop the board – but according to Todd McShay, that might not be the case come draft day.
Speaking on his podcast breaking down his first mock draft, McShay reported Tennessee could look to trade that selection. He said the information coming out about the franchise’s plans, including potentially selecting Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter, could be to help increase the value of a trade.
The Titans have a new general manager coming in as Mike Borgonzi takes over, and they still have to answer a question about whether Will Levis is the guy at quarterback going forward. But based on what he’s hearing, McShay said Tennessee might be open to moving out of the top spot.
“Here’s what I’m hearing – and it’s early. This is exactly what I’m hearing. If there’s a wish list for Borgonzi and Tennessee, it’s to trade out of this pick,” McShay said. “And I think that’s why – and we said it at the time, but the more I talk to people in the league who I don’t want to say are in the know. It’s always what people are hearing. It could be smoke-screened information off of smoke-screened information, so you never know for certain because no one in Tennessee’s going to say a word, obviously. But information leaks out.

“The wish list, from my understanding, would be to trade out of this No. 1 pick and the reason you’re hearing from Pacman Jones that it’s absolutely going to be Travis Hunter at No. 1, the reason you’re hearing from Tennessee leadership there that we’re not going to pass on a generational pick, is to … drive up the value and make people realize, ‘Yeah, we’ll stay here and we’ll take Travis. Or maybe, the generational talent is Abdul Carter. Or maybe, the generational talent’s Cam Ward. We’re not telling you who we think the generational talent is.'”
Tennessee finished 3-14 this past season as Levis struggled both on the field and to stay healthy under first-year coach Brian Callahan. But with Borgonzi coming in as general manger, the franchise could opt to hit the reset button and allow Callahan to pick his own quarterback. On the other hand, the Titans could stick with Levis and go with the best available atop the draft, with Carter and Hunter largely emerging as two of the top prospects on the board.
It’s all part of the intrigue as the pre-draft process ramps up. Things will hit a new gear next week when teams converge on Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine.
