Just three days after being benched by the New York Giants, Daniel Jones was off the team. Jones asked to be released and eventually signed with the Minnesota Vikings. His priority was being on a competitive team and with New York 2-9 entering Thanksgiving, Jones wanted a change.

FOX color commentator Tom Brady was not a fan of how Jones handled the entire situation. He criticized the quarterback during Thursday’s game between New York and the Dallas Cowboys. Brady states it would not have been something he did during his career.

“I don’t know how the whole situation went down, but to think that you would ask for a release from a team that committed a lot to you is maybe different than how I would have handled that. I always felt I wanted to get the trust and respect of my teammates regardless of the situation, knowing that I was trying to do the best I could for the team. That was the most important thing.”

Brady did admit going through these situations can be difficult. At one point, Jones was spotted at practice working as the scout team safety. Not where many quarterbacks paid $40 million a year expect to be.

However, when working with a team, doing what’s asked is the route Brady claims to be best. To no surprise, winning is priority No. 1 for the seven-time Super Bowl champion, and was willing to do whatever it took.

“There’s just some different things that happen in the NFL, and everyone makes individual choices,” Brady said. “I think we all, at points in our careers, face different challenges. I faced them in college, and some things didn’t go the way I wanted but the people that mattered most to me were the guys in the locker room. I showed up every day. I don’t care if they asked me to be scout team safety or scout team quarterback. I was gonna do whatever I could to help the team win.”

Jones still spent this week on the practice squad in Minnesota but was at quarterback. It’s a new beginning for him after a rocky time with the Giants. Usually, these types of splits have bad endings and Brady was not a fan.
