Tom Brady often felt like he was super-human– and while it felt impossible to envision the NFL without the greatest quarterback to play the game– it appears the time has finally come for the future Hall of Famer to hang up the cleats.

While there has been plenty of speculation about Brady contemplating retirement since the report emerged ahead of the Bucs’ playoff game, it almost feels like a certainty at this point.

On Friday night, CBS Sports reported that veteran NFL Insider Jason La Canfora has sources claiming that Brady’s retirement is imminent and an announcement is coming in the next few days.

“Developing story out of the NFL where sources close to Tom Brady say he’s preparing to retire, according to CBS NFL Insider Jason La Canfora,” the report stated.

The massive report also stated that several sources in Brady’s inner circle expect him to reveal his decision in the coming days.

While nothing is certain as of now, La Canfora is a veteran NFL Insider who has been on this story since his initial report stating Tom Brady may be done after this year.

In a week filled with massive movement in the NFL, one of the biggest stories may become official sooner rather than later.

There has been speculation throughout the league since a report about Brady’s future emerged ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ playoff game vs. the Los Angeles Rams.

Rick Stroud covers the Bucs for the Tampa Bay Times and captured this quote from Tom Brady’s podcast on Monday. It certainly shines light on to the factors weighing the future Hall of Famer as he contemplates stepping away in 2022.

“Playing football I get so much joy from.  I love it.  But not playing football, there’s a lot of joy in that for me also now, too, with my kids getting older and seeing them develop and grow.  So all these things need to be considered and they will be.

Tom Brady closed out the 2021 with the best statistical numbers of his career. The Bucs’ quarterback closed out the year with an eye-staggering 5, 316 passing yards, 43 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with a passer rating of 102.1.

While back-to-back Super Bowl victories would have been a magical ending, Brady has nothing to prove. At age 44, he put up unprecedented numbers and now, it feels like that may be the perfect way to say goodbye to the game he loves dearly.
