Tom Brady ranks top-five NFL teams after Week 1
Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady made his broadcasting debut this weekend for the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns showdown on Sunday. Making his transition from player to analyst official during a highly anticipated 2024 NFL season.
Now that he’s on the other side, football fans can expect to hear a lot more from Brady regarding the NFL landscape. Which includes his recent power rankings of the top-five teams in the NFL following the Week 1 slate of games.
Check out Brady’s top five teams currently in the NFL below, along with his explanation and what impressed him the most about each of their Week 1 performances.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs kicked off the NFL season in electric fashion last Thursday. KC defeated the Baltimore Ravens in a thrilling 27-20 win that surely made Kansas City look like a team with the potential to win their third-straight Super Bowl.
“They’re the reigning Super Bowl champs, they cannot win the game on opening night and not be the best team. They’re going to be tough to beat all year, Patrick [Mahomes] played phenomenal. Chris Jones, what he did to wreak havoc in the pocket, they beat a great Ravens football team to start the year,” Mahomes said.
2. San Francisco 49ers
Kansas City started off the NFL season, but their Super Bowl LVIII opponent ended things on Monday night with a dominant win over the New York Jets. They did so without star running back Christian McCaffrey as they leaned on Jordan Mason‘s 147 yards on the ground in his first career start.
“What they did on offense without their best player on offense, CMC, they still found a way to dominate the run game,” Brady said. “They played very well in pass defense against Aaron Rodgers, obviously he’s coming off of injury, but I loved everything I saw from the Niners on Monday night.”
3. Detroit Lions
One of the most exciting wins of the weekend was the Detroit Lions defeating the Los Angeles Rams in a 26-20 overtime thriller. A rematch of last year’s playoff game that lived up to the hype and featured 750 yards of total offense between both teams.

“They showed a lot of resiliency playing against a really tough Rams team, who I think is going to surprise a lot of people this year. But Detroit got the ball in over time, ran the football down the Rams throat there, and I know Dan Campbell loves tough, hard-nosed football.” Brady said.
4. Dallas Cowboys
Brady was front and center for the Dallas Cowboys’ 33-17 win in Cleveland against the Browns. A dominant performance where the Cowboys forced two turnovers, got home for six sacks, and held Cleveland under 100 yards rushing.
“They suffocated them in the run game, they attacked that pocket, Deshaun [Watson] was uncomfortable all day,” Brady said. “And then on the offensive side of the ball, Dak [Prescott] made the plays when he needed to, they had a big play in the kick return game. They played well in all three phases.”
5. Houston Texans
The Houston Texans round out Brady’s top-five after winning back and forth battle against the Indianapolis Colts. New additions like Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon both found the end zone and make Houston potentially look even more dangerous than last season.
“DeMeco Ryans has done a great job since taking over as the head coach of that team,” Brady said. “This game to me was about CJ Stroud, he played so clutch in situational football. They were in the playoffs last year, they’re gonna be a tough team to beat all season long.”
