Tom Brady reveals he almost signed with Chicago Bears in 2020
Tom Brady was nearly the Chicago Bears quarterback in 2020 before he opted to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During the FOX broadcast between the Bucs and Philadelphia Eagles, Brady revealed on the broadcast Chicago made a big push after he left the New England Patriots. In a never before told story, Brady gave viewers quite the story.
While explaining what made Tampa an attractive destination, Brady told partner Kevin Burkhardt he was almost a Bear.
“Ultimately, Chicago was a team, and I’ve never told that story before, they were very stealth in their recruitment,” Brady said. “I was seriously considering, but in the end, it came down to Tampa, and it was close to my son, Jack. I love Bruce Arians and the role that he played in offense, and ultimately, the great players like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin that I’m still out there watching today.”
Burkhardt actually questioned Brady for saying the Bears.
“You know, they were really under the radar, and nobody would have realized that,” Brady said. “We just, you know, free agency is a tricky thing, and once you make the decision, there was no looking back. So there’s no reason to ever tell anybody that, but I just felt like, ultimately, I made a great decision coming to Tampa and what we accomplished as a team, and the relationships with Jason Licht and his whole staff and all the players, guys I saw in the pregame.

“It meant so much to me. Three years later, when I left, I realized how important this place has been in my football journey.”
Brady won the Super Bowl in his first year with the Bucs, a record 7th as a starting quarterback. He led Tampa Bay back to the playoffs the following two years but couldn’t get back to the big game before retirement.
Then, after a year off, he joined the FOX booth on a record deal to begin the 2024 season. Meanwhile, the Bears ultimately bottomed out but ended up with a, potential, franchise changing quarterback in Caleb Williams.
Brady was on one during Sunday’s broadcast, his third regular season game. He also fired back at Baker Mayfield after the latter’s comments about making Tampa a more fun environment when he signed.
But man, Brady and the Bears? Just seems weird right?
