Tom Brady was the ultimate heel outside the New England region for a majority of his NFL career. At Fanatics Fest on Friday, he immediately became the bad guy.

Over 200 athletes and celebrities are set to appear throughout the three-day event at the Javits Center in Manhattan. Many are making WWE-style entrances to a crowd of fans. Now, this is New York Giants and Jets town. Brady spent 20 years playing quarterback for the New England Patriots. You knew that when Brady came out from behind the curtain, it wouldn’t be a positive reaction.

Brady certainly knew that. He leaned into it, grabbing a Jets jersey from the crowd, throwing it to the ground and spitting on it. The Giants were next. Brady found his hands on an Eli Manning jersey, ripping it in half.

But you know what, Brady wasn’t the only multi-time Super Bowl champion hanging out at Fanatics Fest. Manning ran down the ramp and jumped on Brady to the delight of the crowd. Once again, Manning went over Brady, just as he did in their pair of Super Bowl meetings.

But before then, it was masterful heel work from the seven-time Super Bowl champion. Though former Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes refused to turn heel earlier this year at The Rock‘s request, even if he had to congratulate Brady on his work. Or maybe he just enjoyed Brady coming out to his theme song, “Kingdom,” by Downstait.

“[Goat emoji] @TomBrady,” Rhodes tweeted.

The reaction Brady received at Fanatics Fest was no different than what he experienced last month at the Indianapolis 500. Brady, who rode along with Jimmie Johnson in the “Fastest Seat in Sports” ahead of the race, was showered with boos. Clearly, there were tons of Indianapolis Colts fans in attendance. And based on Brady’s Instagram story post the next day, he was unbothered.

“PS,” Brady wrote. “It was nice to get in one more successful drive in front of a bunch of Colts fans.”
