Tom Brady to Nick Foles during NFC Championship: 'I don't hate you, I'm just jealous of you'
The Tom Brady–Nick Foles saga awoke after being dormant for seven years following Super Bowl LII, won by Foles’ Eagles.
Brady and Foles did not shake hands after Philadelphia defeated New England 41-33 in Minneapolis. The future Hall of Fame QB was, of course, criticized by Eagles fans.
So there’s a long-standing assumption that Brady can’t stand Foles, the Super Bowl MVP. But Brady cleared the air during the FOX broadcast Sunday when the camera panned to Foles in a suite.
“Nick I don’t hate you,” Brady said while chuckling. “I’m just jealous of you. You caught it, I didn’t.”
Brady referred to Foles’ touchdown reception on the “Philly Special” play on 4th and Goal near the end of the first half of the Super Bowl. Brady and the Patriots tried a similar trick play earlier in that game in which Brady short-armed his catch attempt.
The Foles touchdown and subsequent MVP performance led Philadelphia to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history.
Brady, a seven-time winner, definitely knows the feeling of winning a championship. But perhaps that one stings a little bit, even though he and the Patriots won the very next season and Brady would go on to win one with the Tampa Bay Bucs two years after that.

Over the course of his career, Foles finished his career with 14,227 yards, 82 touchdowns, 47 interceptions and a 62.4% completion percentage. In 2013, Foles set an NFL record for 27 touchdowns and two interceptions for the best ratio for a single season.
He also has an NFL record seven touchdown passes in a single game, which he set that same season.
Foles had a 29-29 career record as a starter with the Eagles, then-St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts.
He was drafted by Philadelphia with the No. 88 overall pick (third round) out of Arizona in the 2012 NFL Draft. He played for the Eagles for three years before being traded to the Rams. After one season in St. Louis, Foles signed with the Chiefs.
He returned to Philadelphia in 2017 and once he filled in for the injured Carson Wentz, the rest was history. The following season, Foles once again filled in for Wentz late in the year due to injury and led the Eagles to playoffs. They went 1-1 in their bid to repeat.
Philadelphia made a decision to ride with Wentz in 2019 and Foles signed with the Jaguars and finished his career with three teams over the next four seasons.
