It’s been six days since the Washington Commanders hired former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as their head coach.

In those six days that have since past, that little bit of information apparently never made its way to Cowboys running back Tony Pollard. Pollard, appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” Wednesday on Super Bowl Radio in Las Vegas, revealed he had just learned that his former coach had taken the head coaching job for the NFC East rival live on the show. Pollard cited his inactivity on social media since midway through the season.

“You know it’s crazy,” Pollard said. “I had been off of social media. I got rid of Instagram midway through the season. Being a Cowboy you have to find ways to keep your mental on point. I just found out right now.”

Pollard eventually gave his thoughts on Quinn headed to Washington, saying he has no doubt he’ll find success in whatever he does.

“I don’t doubt Dan at all in whatever he is doing,” Pollard said. “Head coaching, as the defensive coordinator or whatever it is. He is going to find a way to get the most out of the guys he coaches. He does a great job of being relatable to the guys and being there for them.”

Dan Quinn gets another shot at being HC in the NFL

Quinn, 53, got the job following three successful seasons as the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. Dallas’ defense took a big jump in 2023, finishing as the No. 5 ranked unit in the league. During his introductory presser Monday, Quinn divulged into how he plans to turn the 4-13 Commanders from irrelevant to relevant. According to Quinn, this isn’t a rebuild; it’s a recalibration. Quinn offered a callback to what took place in Atlanta when he served as the Falcons’ head coach.

“I can remember Matt Ryan, after my first year together, he said, ‘I felt like I got traded, but I went back to the same building,’ and I thought to myself, ‘Good job,’” Quinn said. “Because that’s what I was wanting them to feel. They needed a recalibration and our club does too. And so that’s what I anticipate doing.”
