Tony Romo predicts major change in Dallas Cowboys offense

Tony Romo knows a thing or two about running a top-tier offense with the Dallas Cowboys.

Last season, he watched from the broadcast booth as Dak Prescott showed his immense ability all season long. However, Romo also sat haplessly as the Cowboys faltered down the stretch, and was forced to see the seconds evaporate on the franchise he loves during their playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Now, the former Cowboys quarterback is predicting a major change in the team’s offense prior to the 2022 season.

“The Cowboys have been probably the best offense in the division for a while now,” Romo told Maggie Gray and Andrew Perloff on CBS Sports Radio, per Pro Football Talk. “And you know that the offensive line since around 2014, ‘14-ish, they started to get really good and so that’s carried on for such a long time, and then you threw in these pieces at wide receiver and all of a sudden this was a dynamic group that could — it was going to be very difficult to stop.

“And you’re seeing just a little bit of change start to happen. So I think you’ll see a shift in philosophy a little bit, the identity might change and get back toward the 2016-ish ‘17, ‘18 season.”

Evidently, Romo sees a shift in focus — the Cowboys have been building their wide receiving corps up over recent seasons, and they now possess one of the best in the entire league. However, the team focused more on their offensive line throughout the offseason, trading Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns, and drafting Tulsa offensive tackle Tyler Smith in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Nevertheless, the former Cowboys quarterback believes Prescott will have a great season regardless.

“I think he’s shown he’s more than capable of playing great football consistently throughout a year and I just think it’s gonna be a little different,” Romo continued. “You know, because the weapons won’t be quite as dynamic. They’ll still be very good. But I do think that you’ll see teams play them just a little bit different.

“[Prescott’s] going to play good football, and he’s going to give them a chance to win every week he plays.”

As you can see, Tony Romo has a lot of love for the Dallas Cowboys — and a lot of faith in their offense for the 2022 season.
