Tony Stewart mourns team's race car driver killed in road rage incident

Ahead of the race weekend, Tony Stewart shared some heartbreaking news. One of his Tony Stewart Racing drivers died. According to Stewart, Ashlea Albertson died after a road rage accident. The 24-year-old TQ Midget driver was driving through Indiana at the time of the incident.

Tony Stewart has his hands in all kinds of racing, not just NASCAR. Of course, he fields cars in sprint racing through just about all levels. Albertson had competed for him for a while. Indiana State Police are still investigating the incident. There are also ongoing toxicology reports from both drivers involved.

On Friday night, Stewart shared a touching post, honoring and remembering his teammate, driver and friend.

“Today, I lost a teammate,” Stewart tweeted. “[Ashlea Albertson] had an infectious personality and could light up any room. She was a great race car driver that was involved in a road rage accident and lost her life. In the past, I’ve also gotten caught up in road rage. I hope that we can honor Ashlea by controlling what we can control on the highway. Losing her is a sobering reminder of how precious life is. Please join me in keeping her family and friends in your prayers.”

Back in 2021, Ashlea did an interview with her local paper in Greenfield, Indiana. She stated how much she liked racing, competing in a male-dominated field, and how much she enjoyed working on her car. Her father claimed that in her first 11 years of racing, she never came across the line outside of the top-10.

Tony Stewart loves racing and loves his home state of Indiana. This is a truly tragic story and hopefully, Albertson’s family and friends can heal with time after this devastating loss.

Tony Stewart performing well in NHRA

One of Tony Stewart’s racing ventures is in the NHRA. He not only has a team of drivers but competes in the Top Alcohol Dragster division of the series. He’s performed well, won events, and made some finals on others. All of that has led to a surprising lead in the points race.

At least, it was a lead for a week. Stewart is back down to second in the standings after Shawn Cowie took a nine-point advantage on Smoke in the points. This season it has been very interesting to see the NASCAR legend get involved with drag racing in earnest.

While his Stewart-Haas Racing team has not performed well in the Cup Series as of late, Tony Stewart Racing has performed really well in the drag races. Don’t be shocked if you see Stewart taking another series championship back home with him at the end of the season.
