The Cook Out Southern 500 has some great-looking cars this weekend for the Round of 16 in the NASCAR Playoffs. This is the fourth year in a row that Darlington has opened up the postseason and it’s a great choice. With this Next Gen car, intermediate tracks are a lot more fun these days.

It doesn’t happen all of the time, but the Fords will often bring not just one or two but a whole group of great schemes to the track. It is one of those weeks this week, with Stewart-Haas Racing being particularly strong.

Don’t worry though, we have some Chevy and Toyota representation as well. We’re going to see the return of a very popular Jordan Brand scheme at The Lady in Black.

Top-5 paint schemes for Cook Out Southern 500

Kevin Harvick – Mobil 1 Take 5 Ford
By the time the season ends, I’m going to name Kevin Harvick the Paint Scheme King. He’s bringing this Mobil 1 Take 5 Ford Mustang to Darlington Raceway with championship hopes on the line. He’s 15th in the playoff standings entering but in the top-5 for schemes. 8/10.

Chase Briscoe – HighPoint.com Lady in Black Ford
Another Stewart-Haas Racing paint scheme. Briscoe missed the playoffs this season but this is an awesome No. 14 Mustang. HighPoint.com came with this “Lady in Black” look and it is likely my favorite look from Briscoe on the season. 7.5/10.

JJ Yeley – Ollies Bargain Outlet Ford
This is a fun one. If you’ve never been to an Ollie’s, it is a strange yet comforting place. Like you just stepped into the year 2008. I like the yellow and red and of course, the Ollie’s logo. Just like the store itself, this feels like a throwback scheme and I think that’s why I like it so much. The hood looks great and at least the door panel and rear fenders are being utilized properly in the design. 7.0/10.

Small note, make Ollie’s head bigger next time and put it on the hood.

Tyler Reddick – Jordan Brand Toyota
The return of the Carolina Blue Jordan Brand No. 45! This Tyler Reddick scheme is among the best of the season and it is back for South Carolina. Michael Jordan will reportedly be at this race as well. I try to avoid repeats on here, but I can’t help it. Just look at the firesuit! 9.5/10 – almost perfect.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. – Kroger/Irish Spring Chevy
With all of his great Kroger/[Insert SPonsor] looks this season, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and JTG Daugherty Racing are up there with the best in the Cup Series overall. This Irish Spring Chevy is solid and the white hood with the “Boost by Kroger” on it completes it. Let’s also note how great the rear window banners are. 7.5/10 – once again, give me more in the empty space down the sides.
