Reports recently emerged that the Chicago Bears could be targeting Trace Armstrong for a “top management position” within the organization. Part of that report was a possible package deal that would also bring current Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day to the Bears alongside Armstrong. Later on Sunday morning, Armstrong took to Twitter to deny those reports.

“I have the utmost respect for the Chicago Bears organization, the McCaskey family and Ted Phillips,” Armstrong tweeted. “However, any assertion that I have engaged in conversations with them about joining the club in any capacity is simply not true.”

The Bears have had a tough season, currently sitting at 4-8. Chicago started the year 3-2, but a skid that has seen the Bears lose six of their last seven games has resulted in boiled up frustration in the organization. The future of current Bears head coach Matt Nagy is in doubt, and wholesale changes could be coming to the Bears.

CBS reported the Bears interest of Armstrong, Day teaming up

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Armstrong was very interested in joining the Bears, who he previously played for, to try and help turn things around.

“Armstrong, a former Bears player who is held in very high regard by the McCaskey family and longtime team president Ted Phillips, is very interested in the potential of helping steward his former franchise into better days, and ownership is at least willing to consider the notion of restructuring the hierarchy of the franchise, sources said, as it embarks on getting a new stadium constructed in Arlington,” La Canfora said.

“Sources said in this scenario, if the sides agreed to it, Armstrong would oversee football operations with the coach and GM reporting to him; Bears coach Matt Nagy is currently one of Armstrong’s clients, but at this point staving off a coaching change in Chicago is remote at best, with a heavy expectation around the league that Nagy is let go.”

That report also included interest of Armstrong wanting to bring Day with him to the Bears. Day is one of the best coaches on college football, and his name has and will continue to come up in NFL coaching searches. The Bears would make sense as a landing spot for Day, as former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is the team’s quarterback of the future after being a first round NFL Draft pick last summer.
